ABOUT THE PROJECT:
WHY AND WHAT ?
Considering the increase of the social, economic and cultural divisions in many countries, that create situations of failure, marginalization and risk among the youth, the partners of the project "Musical postcards" wish to act and support teenagers facing difficulties on the personal level or with their environment (disabilities, learning or social difficulties, intercultural conflicts).
These youngsters are not just a vulnerable audience in the phase of self-construction, but also a rich human resource for their desire of independence and their life experience. By our youth exchange project, we aim to promote better understanding and appropriation of their surrounding and reciprocal life, in their constraints and difficulties as well as in their potentials. Music or dance listening and practicing will contribute in this exploration, developing transposable skills and acquisitions facilitating their learning and interaction within social and cultural distant groups.
The exchange will be an opportunity to initiate new learning process for young people and to value the importance of artistic and cultural practices in term of intercultural experience.

The project will combine a music and sound collecting process done by the teenagers with the support of professionals in each country, the sending of the « Musical postcards », and several steps of music composition or sound designing, leaded by professional multi-skills musicians, using as well acoustic written music and other approaches: improvisation, electronic.
After 3 months of local work and distance exchange, the youth meeting will take place in France, January 2017, with 50 young people aged between 13 and 18 years old, living in France (15 teenagers from Niort / 5 Syrian teenagers living in Lyon), in Bosnia & Herzegovinia (9 from Mostar Rock School / 6 teenagers without parental care from Sarajevo,), in Turkey (5 Turkish teenagers living the neighborhood of Tarlabaşi, within a strong social mix and undergoing a fast gentrification by the state / 11 teenagers living in Istanbul-Yeldeğirmeni, on Asian side, undergoing a natural process of gentrification.
Musical materials as well as the life environment of the teenagers will be valued as a constituent element inherent of their individual and collective identity, but also as a medium to facilitate dialogue with close environment (family, friends, neighbors of different ages and from different social and cultural groups), and more distant environment.
The designing of a common language through collected and new produced sources from each country will allow the “harmony” to emerge, in an unexpected space. It will be a vector of experimentation concerning collective working methods aiming 3 goals: new learning process, collective artwork designing, collective performance for a local audience in each city involved.

Result and impact…
By a better understanding of their environment, and intercultural debates, the young participants will get more awareness of the importance to combine diverse approaches in the perception of their daily life, and in the expression of their thoughts and know-how by exploring the balance between: rational dimension and more sensitive, spontaneous or emotional dimension.
The junior and adult leaders involved will be valued by sharing experiences, ideas, methods about youth work and education to art, improving both their own creativity and teaching methods.
